Gayle is interested in organic and chemical biology, which is reflected in her undergraduate research project. Gayle has worked for three semesters with Dr. Philip Kumler on "Alternative Steroid Tagged Reaction for Mitsunobu Reaction." Last summer Gayle spent 12-hour days in Dr. Peter Wipf's lab at the University of Pittsburgh on the project. Gayle says the discipline improved her work and study habits and she is ready for graduate school. Out of the five places Gayle applied, she was accepted at the University of Rochester, the University of Pittsburgh, Boston University and the University of Michigan. Gayle will enroll in a Ph.D program at the University of Michigan in the chemical biology program. She chose U. of Michigan because she is impressed with the city of Ann Arbor and with the people and the programs that the school offered. Gayle has presented her research at SRCEE 2003 "Automated Synthesis of Various Peptides" and at SRCEE 2004 "Cleaning Up the Mitsunobu: Steroid Tagged Reagents." Gayle served as a teaching assistant for Dr. Philip Kumler's organic lab and worked as an R.A. (Resident Assistant) for three years in Kasling and Igoe residence halls. Gayle's long-range career plans include the possibility of teaching and working in the pharmaceutical industry.
