Andrea has earned, summa cum laude, her B.S.
degree as a dual major in chemistry and biology. Andrea’s interest is in organic chemistry and
she has done undergraduate research for 3 semesters with Dr. Mark Janik as her advisor. In the
fall, Andrea will enter the Pharm-D program at the University of Buffalo. This 4-year PhD
program in pharmacy is highly competitive. The application process consists of completing a
detailed application, including writing an essay, obtaining 3 letters of recommendation,
submitting a supplemental application and interviewing with 2 faculty members. Out of a
thousand applicants, 120 are accepted. Andrea also applied to Ohio State, SUNY Albany and
LeCom in Erie, PA, and was accepted at all. Andrea spends her summers working as a pharmacy
technician at the Rite-Aid in Fredonia. She has served as an undergraduate teaching assistant
in general chemistry and organic chemistry. Andrea also participated in the SUNY Fredonia’s
women’s softball team. For 3 years she was the starting shortstop, and the team reached 3rd
place in the 2004 SUNYAC playoffs. Andrea’s long range plans include moving to a southern
state, perhaps Florida, where she has relatives, and getting a job as a pharmacist. Andrea is
the recipient of the 2006 Analytical Chemistry Award.
