Richard has earned his B.S. degree in biochemistry. Richard has done undergraduate research with Dr. Matthew Fountain on a bioinformatics project funded by the McNair Foundation. They studied the homology of the HrcA protein, looking at its evolutionary relationships in other organisms such as bacteria. Richard was awarded the Mary Marletta Scholarship in 2003 and merited the Graduates of 1929 Bioethics Award in 2004. Along with his wife Nancy, who is working toward her degree in education, Richard home-schools his children: Kylejay (15), Brandon (13), Shauna (12), Annemarie (3) and Bethany (13 months). Dad covers the sciences and Mom covers the math. Richard and his family plan on relocating to the Carolinas or Tennessee this summer. Long range plans include graduate school.
