Freshman Chemistry Award

For strong performance in Organic Chemistry, as well as overall academic performance.

Thumm Award

To the full-time chemistry major who attains the highest grades in Analytical Chemistry, and shows evidence of interest and potential success in analytical chemistry.
  • In honor of Byron A. Thumm who retired from the department in 1987.
  • Student is selected by the faculty involved with this course.
  • This award is presented every spring.
 

Dingledy Award

To the chemistry major with the best overall performance in the Physical Chemistry sequence.
  • In honor of David Dingledy, a long-time member of the chemistry faculty and the person who taught physical chemistry for many years.
  • Student is selected by the faculty involved with this course plus one additional chemistry faculty member.
  • This award is presented every fall.
 

Moos Award

Outstanding Senior Award
  • To the full-time chemistry major who has completed four years of college with an overall GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 and evidence of distinctive departmental performance.
  • In honor of Ruth and Gilbert Moos.
  • Student is selected by the Deparmtental Awards Committee.
  • This award is presented every spring.
 

Keller Award

Outstanding Research Award
  • For demonstrated dedication, creativity and independent thinking toward a research goal.
  • Students are nominated by their research director.
  • Final selection is made by the Deparmtental Awards Committee.
  • This award is presented every spring.
 

Van Valkenburg Award

Outstanding Service Award
  • For outstanding service to the department.
  • In honor of Dorothy van Valkenburg, who was a custodian and friend of the students in Houghton Hall for many years.
  • Student is selected by the Deparmtental Awards Committee.
  • This award is presented every spring.
 

Alumni Award

To an outstanding chemistry graduate of the department.
 

Dingledy Scholar

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Declared chemistry major, but not a senior
  2. Successful completion of a minimum of 8 hours of chemistry courses during the two semesters in question,
  3. Successful completion of a minimum of 28 hours during the two semesters in question.
Selection Criteria:
  1. Best overall performance in the combined Fall and Spring semesters as determined primarily by calculation of the two semester combined GPA.
  2. If the above tabulation leads to two or more students with identical overall GPA's, then selection from those students will be made by considering, for the time period in question, the following selected GPA's in the indicated order: Chemistry GPA, Math/CS GPA.
  • The candidate is selected by the Departmental Awards Committee, subject to approval by the Dingledy family.
  • This award is presented every fall.
 

Outstanding Teaching Assistant

To the outstanding TA as reported by evaluations from students and staff.
  • The award recipient can be either a graduate or undergraduate student.
  • Final selection is made by the Deparmtental Awards Committee.
  • This award is presented every spring.
