Sarah has been accepted for graduate school at
the University of Buffalo, the University of Rochester, Penn State, Dartmouth
and Syracuse University. A native of Cohocton, NY (near Rochester), Sarah plans
to attend Syracuse University because of its proximity to home and the choices
for doing research. Sarah spent the last two summer at Noyes Hospital, starting
first as a phlebotomist, and then being promoted to medical lab technician
testing blood. This summer she will return to a more challenging job; learning
50 more tests and 3 more instruments involving qualitative chemistry for the
blood tests. Sarah is also interested in organic/organometallic chemistry,
and did research with Dr. Sherri Mason. Her presentation at SRCEE was entitled:
"Reduction of a photochemical kinetic smoke plume model using quasi-steady state
techniques." Sarah served as president a Chem Club for the spring 2003 semester,
where she organized a trip to the Corning Glass Science Center and a fund-raiser
selling ACS study guides. She has been named as the recipient of the Outstanding
Service Award for 2003.
