TESOL: Intensive Teacher Institute (ITI), CAS

The Intensive Teacher Institute (ITI) Program is a fast track to NYS ESL certification for content areas that NYS Ed Department has identified as being areas of critical shortage. ESL (English as a Second Language), or working with LEP/ELLs (Limited English Proficient/English language learners) is one of those critical shortage areas statewide. The ITI Program is a joint collaborative program with the New York State Education Department (administered through BOCES) and SUNY Fredonia’s College of Education. Qualified candidates who complete this 5-course program are eligible to take the CST (Content Specialty Test) certification exam and apply for ESL certification (ESOL K-12).
Candidates interested in the TESOL CAS-ITI Program must meet ALL of the following criteria. You must:
- Have a baccalaureate degree and initial/provisional or professional/permanent certification in an approved area
- Be currently teaching in your area of certification and
- Meet
both SUNY Fredonia Graduate Studies and ITI enrollment/admission
criteria

All TESOL CAS-ITI Program candidates must provide proof of:
- 12 credits in a Language other than English (LOTE) (or completed by the end of the program)
- NYS Child Abuse Workshop
- NYS Drug and Alcohol Workshop
- NYS SAVE Workshop
- Fingerprinting Requirement
Tuition funding is available for qualified candidates through ITI and the College of Education’s Project ELA. Funding details will be provided to qualified applicants during the screening process.
