State and Federal Agencies and Other Sites of Interest
The purpose of this page is to provide links that will be of interest to public school music administrators and college and university music education teachers and administrators. The nature of these links is that they provide information that can be used in making budget decisions, in researching state and federal guidelines concerning music and education, in researching curriculum guuidelines, and in projecting trends for music education. Suggestions for this page should be sent to the COMTEP Webmaster.
NYSERNet (New York State Education and Research Network) NYSERNet's World Wide Web Home Page
features multimedia looks at NYSERNet, New York State, and many of
its affiliates. It continues to grow as the premier site in NY for
experimentation and exploration of visual, audio, video as well as textual
electronic information delivery.
Distinguishing characteristics of these services include the Breast
Cancer Information Clearinghouse, the Empire Schoolhouse K-12
Resource, and an electronic reference area organized by professional
librarians. NYSERNet also maintains various NY State
government information servers, including a searchable index of all State
Term Contract documents readily available for viewing or downloading
through the Internet.
What's New at the Department of Education and The Federal Department of Education Who's who at the Department, Goals 2000, news of grants and money matters, guides for the teacher/researcher, and publications and products.
Financial Aid Crisis of America The very latest on bills in congress, budget updates, congressional committee reports and votes, and almost everything concerning anything related to student funding for schools.
State Government WWW and Gopher Servers A listing of all the agencies for every state that have Internet access.
The WWW Virtual Law Library A state by state listing of government servers dealing with laws of that state. While there are similarities to the previous listing, this is more directed at legal issues in each state.
Education Sources K - 12 A large listing of K - 12 education servers and higher education servers. It has a search function that will help you find specific information. A search of the term "music" lists extensive resources.

Kent State University Education Server This site is devoted to teacher training, including teacher training materials, specialized resources by subject, and guides to helping teachers develop course material on the Internet. This has few music references, but is worth a look because of its teacher training emphasis.
Phone Book Server Look here to find specific people on the Internet. However, you have to know an institution where that person is in order to go to specific phone directories.
University of Utah Music Research Page This is one of the first pages (originally a gopher site) devoted to music research designed and implemented by my friend Ed Asmus, a former COMTEP member. He says the skiing is better in Utah. You will find the exclusive email list of music researchers, link to the Internation Music Education Index, Discipline Based Arts Education Power of the Arts report, the COMTEP gopher, and other sites devoted to music research. In addition, there are position announcements, calls for papers, announcements for symposium, and summary of current music research.
AskERIC. The Educational Resources Information Center. Along with more than 700 lesson plans for subjects from math to language arts, this provides reference and curriculum materials that include email lists, educational research databases, and a question and answer service.
American Music Conference Internet Service. Contains information about the latest news affecting music, the National Coalition for Music Education, the National Standards, National Music Education Summit, Gallup survey on American attitudes about music, music and early childhood research, and AMC organizational information.

heart. It is meant as a jumping in point for parents and children exploring the World-Wide Web together. The Internet and the World-Wide Web have lots of fun and interesting things for you to do and see. I've included this page because its one of my favorite sites (the fifth most popular on the Internet they claim) and a good one to recommend to parents and students.
HEPROC higher education resources indexThis index is a collaborative, participatory discussion and research environment for higher education interests, providing forums, databases, and other interactivity in support of higher education improvement.
International Symposium for Progress in Music Education is an online symposium with keynote speakers, new research, questions, criticisms, rebuttals, debate, and panel discussions. Topics include issues of relevance to music education and will be debated indefinately.
NYSSMA Guide to getting around the InternetThis is an extensive listing of music and education related sites. The sites are more vaired than the COMTEP listing and are more directed to the general educator. Why not recommend it to your music teachers?
