The Shanghai Quartet

Called "utterly sublime" by "The New York Times," the School of Music welcomes The Shanghai Quartet for a week-long residency including class visits, lectures, master classes and a public performance in King Concert Hall, joined by Fredonia piano professor, Sean Duggan. A pre-concert dinner in the Multipurpose Room (Williams Center) with special guest and alumna, Roberta Guaspari-Tzavaras, will begin at 5:30 p.m. Renowned for its passionate musicality, impressive technique and multicultural innovations, The Shanghai Quartet has become one of the world's foremost chamber ensembles. Its elegant style melds the delicacy of Eastern music with the emotional breadth of Western repertoire, allowing it to traverse musical genres including traditional Chinese folk music, masterpieces of Western music and cutting-edge contemporary works. The Shanghai Quartet is Weigang Li, violin, Yi-Wen Jiang, violin, Honggant Li, viola, and Nicholas Tzavaras, cello. The ensemble will also be the featured guests at String Experience on October 3, a day-long workshop for high school string players.
