Requirements

  1. AMST 202 Introduction to American Studies (3 credit hours)
     
  2. Nine hours in exploratory and preparatory courses selected from:
    AMST 210American Popular and Mass Cultures
    AMST 215Holidays and American Culture
    AMST 289Comparative North America
    AMST 296American Identities
    AMST 33819th Century American Culture
    AMST 34020th Century American Culture
    AMST 347United States Immigration
    COMM 102Mass Media and Society
    HIST 105 or 106United States History I & II
    POLI 276Law and Society
    or other courses as advised.


  3. Twenty-four hours of special topics courses in of three concentrations-U.S. Cultures, Cultures of the Americas, or Self-Designed Study. Courses should come from at least two disciplines, and no more than twelve credits can be taken from any one department. At least fifteen credit hours must be taken at the 300-level or above.
     
  4. Three hours in capstone project or seminar, selected from the following list:
