Admission to the department requires the submission of an acceptable portfolio for both freshman and transfer students. It is recommended that all prospective students contact the department for additional information concerning portfolios and admissions. All prospective students are required to submit slides or a CD-ROM of their work for admission consideration. In-person interviews are made for transfer students only after their initial mail-in portfolios have been reviewed. Transfer student interviews are scheduled on specific days throughout the year, please contact the department to make an appointment.

The admissions process is a two-part application. The office of admissions will review your academic background: admission to the college is based upon a review of your academic work, but admission to the department is dependent upon an acceptable portfolio. The earlier your portfolio is submitted, the earlier you will receive a decision. A portfolio consists of 10 to 20 good quality slides or JPG images on a CD of your best work labeled with name, media, size and year completed. At least five of these slides must be drawing from direct observation. Portfolio Submission Guidelines
