Art History

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Art History is an interdisciplinary liberal arts program. The major begins with "Art in Culture" a two-semester sequence of survey courses that provide a broad background in the history of art that is firmly grounded in cultural contexts. Advanced courses focus on the arts of particular periods and cultures, on specific themes and topics in visual culture, and on methodological and theoretical concerns. The major provides an excellent background for students wishing to pursue graduate study or careers in a wide variety of areas including museum professions, visual resources management, secondary education, and arts administration. The Art History program's courses also support the other majors within the Department of Visual Arts and New Media and allow students in these programs to form vital links between their studio experiences and their broader liberal education.
