The Mystical Arts of Tibet

The Mystical Arts of Tibet, featuring a photography exhibit on loan from the Tibet Image Bank of London, was a free event held in the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center Art Gallery from October 23 through November 17, 2004. The opening reception took place on Saturday, October 23rd in RAC Art Gallery lobby with the drawing of the line for the Sand Mandala by the monks of the Drepung Loseling Monastery. Sunday, October 24 featured “Symbolism of the Sand Mandala” a lecture in W101 Thompson Hall. The Gallery opened for creation of Sand Mandala and community sand painting on Monday, October 25 and Tuesday, October 26. October 25th also featured two lectures, “Steps on the Path to Enlightenment: The Journey of a Tibetan Buddhist”, by Dr. David Patt, Executive Director Asian Students program Cornell University with an introduction by Dr. Maurizio Marinelli, of SUNY Fredonia’s History Department and “The Psychology of Enlightenment” by eldest lama of the Drepung Loseling Monastery. The closing ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 27 at noon in Art Gallery, with a .8 mile procession to Canadaway Creek with Drepung Loseling Monastery monks. The Mystical Arts of Tibet was a Richard Gere and Drepung Loseling Production.
