Undergraduate Biology Program

The Department of Biology offers an undergraduate program in biology designed to meet the career goals of students with widely varied interests. Graduates of our program are prepared for 1) entrance into graduate school or professional programs (medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or other health professions), 2) technical work in education, medical, or environmental settings, and 3) professional careers in the public and private sectors.

Degree Requirements:

Core Program:

BIOL 131-132 Principles of Biology I + Lab
BIOL 133-134 Principles of Biology II + Lab
BIOL 237-238 Genetics + Lab
BIOL 243-244 Biodiversity + Lab
BIOL 330-331 General Ecology + Lab
BIOL 333-334 Biochemistry + Lab
BIOL 431 Senior Seminar 1

Plus 12 additional hours of biology electives at the 300 to 400 level

Supporting Courses

  • 1 year of General Chemistry with labs
  • 1 year of Organic Chemistry with labs
  • 1 year of Physics with labs
  • 1 course in Math (Statistics or Calculus)

A total of 120 credits are required for the Bachelor of Science in Biology. The remaining credits include courses taken to fulfill the requirement of the General College Program and electives.
