Communication Studies

Communication Studies emphasizes the process of communication in three areas of human interaction-personal, professional and public.  Courses focus on how people can be more effective senders of messages as well as more critically astute receivers of messages in interpersonal, group, intercultural, organizational and civic settings through both face-to-face and mass mediated channels. The goal of Communication Studies is to develop the student's ability to understand and apply theories and skills of communication performance, message construction, and communication analysis and evaluation across the three areas of emphasis.  Our graduates are prepared to become communication generalists in business and civic settings and to pursue graduate studies in a number of areas including student personnel services, business, education, leadership training and communication.
