Economists engage in systematic inquiry into the effects of those human activities which are grouped under three broad headings: production, exchange, and consumption. The course of study at Fredonia combines a rigorous examination of how economic systems function with applications to real-world economic events and problems.

The department offers a broad range of courses in such fields as money, banking and finance; business economics; international and comparative economics; quantitative economics; political economy and policy economics. As an option, students, in consultation with their advisors, have the opportunity to design a special program of study relevant to their particular interests.
