Review of Lung Cancer Sites
According to the Cancer Care web site , lung cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in one or both of the lungs. The Cancer Care web site claims to be "for people who have lung cancer and their families and friends." Its purpose is to provide information and to offer a guide to other links and resources in the hope that it will help a person "better cope with the disease…." It is believed that with the information provided, a person will be able to ask more precise questions of their doctor.
After viewing the Cancer Care's web site, it is obvious that the site does an adequate job of reporting about cancer. The language used is obviously for an adult, yet it is simple enough that it doesn't require decoding. In a tone that directly addresses someone who has developed lung cancer, the site describes: what cancer is, what some causes and symptoms may be, how cancer is diagnosed, what the different stages are, what the recommended treatments are, how to cope with side effects, and how to find help and support. While this site is adequate, it is rather brief and does not go into a large amount of detail. Cancer Care Web Site explains and defines entirely about the disease, lung cancer, but the author does not go out of the way to add any extras. So while not a extraordinary site, it is a good place to start, and it does provide links to other sites that may be of more help.
The web site, Lung Cancer Awareness Campaign, is excellent and very complete. This site provides a much larger array of statistics and additional links. Other than just these features, this web site provides much more. In the upper right hand corner there is a box which displays one fact about lung cancer, and every few seconds the fact changes and is replaced by a new one. There are also a separate pages set up specifically for providing up to date facts, for dispelling myths and misperceptions, and even for providing media information with up to date news releases.
While the web site appears to focus mainly on lung cancer in women, it seems to be an appropriate attempt at correcting the rumor that men are more likely than women to get lung cancer. Much information is also provided concerning the link between smoking and lung cancer. Unfortunately the site provides little information concerning lung cancer in minorities. It provides only three facts, one of them being that the lung cancer death rate for African Americans is significantly higher than for white Americans. More facts of this sort would add more interest and would likely draw more visitors to the site. However, if any questions do remain after viewing the site, it is possible to contact the authors of the site simply by clicking on the appropriate location. Or more answers may be found at one of the sites listed as additional sources.
One site that I fond that was very useful for looking up information on lung cancer is www.medicinenet.com. This website contains a wide variety of informations on all kinds of diseases and sicknesses. There are several different topics on the main page in this site. Some of the topics that you can find in the site are news, treatment updates, and health facts. This site also includes such topics as diseases and treatments, procedures and test, the harmacy, a medical dictionary, a first aid, and poison control centers. Under the disease and treatments section of this website you can find lung cancer. This section is called "Lung Cancer Forum" and gives terms that are related to lung cancer. In this forum there is a main article all about lung cancer. This article gives facts and also answers questions about the disease. There is also a diagram of what lung cancer is and how it is formed in this article. In the "Lung Cancer Forum" you can also find such topics as medical procedures and test related to lung cancer, related news and updates related diseases and treatments and there is also a doctor's response section.
This site is good to get facts about lung cancer and to have any questions answered that you may have. This site is not just about lung cancer so therefore it does not get as in depth as other sites may. However, there is a lot of basic information about the disease that can be found in this website.
This website,www.lungusa.org, was designed and made by the American Lung Association. In this website you can find all kinds of information on lungs, asthma, air quality, tobacco and any other disease that are related to the lungs. There is a part of the website that tells you all about what is new and there is also a poll booth that allows you to participate in the research of lungs.
Under the topic disease A to Z you can find all kinds of lung diseases. Under the title Lung Cancer you will find a definition of what lung cancer is, how lung cancer develops, what causes lung cancer, who get lung cancer, how it is detected, how it is treated and how it can be prevented. There is also a section that allows for you to get more information on lung cancer. This section includes 1-800 numbers that you can call to get additional information.
This is a good website to get facts about lung cancer. It is also a more reliable source because it came from the American Lung Association. There are no diagrams or pictures of what lung cancer looks like, but you can get a pretty good idea by reading some of the articles about what lung cancer is. This site also allows you get to get the information about the disease in Spanish.
ALCASE(ALLIANCE FOR LUNG CANCER ADVOCACY, SUPPORT, AND EDUCATION,) is a lung cancer support group, that works to improve the lives of suffering cancer patients. Being the only non-profit organization dedicated solely to helping those living with cancer, in order to support themselves, they rely on donations to support themselves.
With its sleek professional look this page is attractive to the eye, unlike most pages it does not try to cram as much information as possible onto into one little spot, and then try to place images right on top of images. This page makes good usage of the background space, so that after looking at the page for a while your eyes don't start to hurt. To see the entire page it requires a lot of clicking around, but it all pays off, as the site is very informative.
Lung Cancer
is an information page run by the National Cancer Institute. This page comes with a list of definitions, of all the words associated with cancer treatment, diseases, and symptoms, the whole nine yards.
What this page lacks in design it gains back in information. This sight is very extensive with information, but that may also be a deterrent to some. Since the page contains more information that pictures, it seem more like a never ending sea of black type. However, at the top there is a table of context that fast forwards you to the specific information on the page that you want to see, making the navigation of this site much easier. Definitely a page built for enlightenment and not entertainment.
