Current research focuses on adaptive strategies among Nicaragua's Miskito people in the era of indigenismo and in response to international indigenista policies of assimilation from 1940 to 1970. Other research interests include oral history as methodology and the recent history of drug-related violence in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
