Phi Alpha Theta is a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. It brings together students, teachers and writers of history for intellectual and social exchanges.
At Fredonia, we encourage our students to participate in Phi Alpha Theta programs and each year our students present their research at the Regional Phi Alpha Theta conference.
The History Department sponsored seven students at the 2009 Phi Alpha Theta Conference at Alfred University, the largest conference in recent memory. Caitlin Levesque's (front right) paper, "Clothing is Mightier than a Sword", placed eighth out of forty-eight graduate and undergraduate papers from such institutions as SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Brockport, Alfred University, Ithaca College, Nazareth College, and Canisius College, among others.
