Self-Design Minor in Interdisciplinary Studies (Italian Studies)
Requirements
Twenty-one (21) credits of coursework focusing on development of Italian language skills, and study of Italian culture and history from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Required courses (9 credits): ITAL 115 Elementary Italian I; ITAL 116 Elementary Italian II; ITAL 210 Italian through Literature and Popular Culture.
Elective courses (12 credits) chosen from the following list of courses by advisement, at least 9 credits of which must be at the 300 level or higher, and chosen from at least two separate disciplines (designated by different course prefixes). A Study Abroad experience in Italy is strongly recommended, but not required.

- ARTH 290 (Art History Abroad if in Italy): 3-5 credits.
- ARTH 315 (Renaissance Art): 3 credits (Prerequisites: ARTH 102 and ARTH 215).
- ARTH 318 (Baroque Art): 3 credits (Prerequisites: ARTH 102).
- ENGL 389 (Greek and Roman Literature): 3 credits.
- HIST 302 (Republican/Imperial Rome): 3 credits (Prerequisites: HIST 101 or HIST 115 or HIST 134).
- HIST 303 (Medieval History I): 3 credits (Prerequisites: HIST 101 or HIST 115 or HIST 134).
- HIST 304 (Medieval History II): 3 credits (Prerequisites: HIST 101 or HIST 115 or HIST 134).
- HIST 305 (Europe in the Era of Renaissance): 3 credits (Prerequisites: HIST 101 or HIST 115 or HIST 134).
- HIST 309 (The Modernization of Europe): 3 credits (Prerequisites: HIST 102 or HIST 116 or HIST 134).
- HIST 311 (Europe in the Modern World): 3 credits (Prerequisites: HIST 102 or HIST 116 or HIST 134).
- HIST 391 (History of Christianity, I): 3 credits.
- INDS 315 (Italian American Experience): 3 credits.
- INDS 400 (Independent Study: culturally based): 3 credits.
- INDS 480 (Independent Study: general): 3 credits.
- PHIL 223 (Roman Philosophy): 3 credits.
- PHIL 369 (Topics on Philosophy: Focus on Italy—Machiavelli, Dante): 3 credits.
- POLI 330 (Western European Politics): 3 credits.
- POLI 343 (International Migrations/Migrations Politics): 3 credits.
- POLI 439 (Directed Study: Comparative Politics: focus on Italy): 3 credits.
- THEA 359 (Commedia dell’Arte): 3 credits (only for Theatre students).
- THEA 451 (History of the Theatre I): 3 credits.
- PSC 390 (The Italian American Experience: Politics, Society, and Identity): 3 credits (online/Buffalo State).
Student will need to declare the minor with the Registrar’s Office using a Change of Major form. Paperwork needs to be signed by Dr. Byrne (Interdisciplinary Studies) and Dr. Rivera, Head of the Department of Modern Languages.
