Course description: This is a sociological presentation of three of the four components of the criminal justice system in the United States. The actors and activities associated with the criminal law (both substantive and procedural), the police and the courts are examined as social phenomena. A variety of sociological, social psychological and organizational perspectives are presented to foster a deeper understanding of this common law legal system. Note: The actors and activities associated with Corrections are presented in a separate course.
