Youngerman Center Reconstruction and Equipment Project
A project to update the space and the audio-visual equipment at the Youngerman Center began as a part of fund raising associated with the 50 year anniversary of the Youngerman Center held on May 6, 2005. Since that time, phase I of the project is near completion. A new adult therapy room to accommodate a Stroke Support Group and adult therapy sessions and a new observation room with 12 viewing stations are completed. The installation of 10 new digital state-of-the-art cameras was completed in August, 2006.
Phase II of the project scheduled for completion in January of 2007 will include 7 additional rooms with cameras. The Speech Pathology and Audiology Department faculty will be afforded updated teaching capabilities in utilizing digital recordings of example communication disorders. The new observation room and camera system will offer student observers more comprehensive observation opportunities. The project also provides the clinic supervisors additional monitoring capabilities for supervision of client sessions.
This has been a collaborative endeavor with the School of Education. Education operates a Reading Clinic for children in the community. The new observation room, updated cameras, and expansion of rooms with cameras will provide the School of Education supervisors of 40 literacy students the benefit of an efficient method for observing reading clinic sessions. Faculty can also utilize the system for classroom instruction. This will be the first time in the history of the School of Education that faculty has been afforded the opportunity to utilize state-of-the-art equipment for teaching and supervision activities.
