Sport Management and Exercise Science

The department offers a major in Sport Management and an Interdisciplinary major in Exercise Sciences composed of an Exercise Science Track and Sport and Exercise Psychology Track. A Minor in Athletic Coaching is offered. The department also offers Minors in Interdisciplinary Studies of Sport Administration and Communication and Sport Psychology.

The department's general elective classes are aimed at enhancing lifetime wellness, personal health and well-being. The wellness courses are offered to enhance the quality of life of students and to develop skills in physical activities that can be continued for a lifetime. Health enhancement courses include Stress Management, Fitness and Nutrition, First Aid and Personal Safety, Wellness and Health Promotion.

Numerous 100 level activity courses (including yoga, self defense, aqua aerobics, aerobics, body sculpting, and weight training and fitness) encourage students to take active involvement in managing their health.

Basic100 level courses: For students having little or no knowledge or skill in the activity. Emphasis is on the development of basic skills and knowledge of physical activity.

Intermediate or Advanced100 level courses: For students who have developed the basic skills and knowledge of a physical activity. Emphasis in advanced classes is placed on the development of advanced skills and strategies. A student may elect to enroll in a maximum of four credits of 100-level wellness courses or activity courses that will be counted in the 120 credit hours needed for graduation. Students may take more than four credits but they will be counted beyond the 120 credits needed for graduation. The following courses are repeatable one time: PHED 121, 129, and 135.There is no credit hour restriction on any 200, 300 or 400 level course towards graduation.

The Intramural and Recreational Sports Program enjoys wide range campus participation throughout the academic year. Students are encouraged to visit the link to Intramural and Recreation sport in the web page. The program offers a variety of sports and recreational activities to meet the needs of interested students, faculty and staff. The department's goal is to provide a variety of quality programs in order to foster an interest in a healthy and interactive lifestyle. Intramurals provide a fun way to meet new people, get exercise, and have friendly competitions. The university employs 30 students to serve as field supervisors as well as referees. It also offers one and two day tournaments, and leagues that run four to seven weeks. Women's, men's, and co-ed leagues are available for each sport that is offered.

The department operates the Blue Devils Fitness Center, a Natatorium, gymnasium, fieldhouse, outdoor tennis courts, indoor track, ice rink, racquetball courts, soccer stadium (one natural field and one synthetic turf field), and playing fields for intramural and recreational sports. The department host numerous special events from athletic championships, concerts, graduation, summer sports camps, and community programs for organizations including Youth Hockey, Men's League Ice Hockey, BOCES Special Olympics, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, and the American Heart Association.
