SPORTS MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP

PHED 400

CREDIT HOURS: 1-6 variable credits.

PRE- REQUISITE: PHED 398 Pre-Internship

Office Hours: M-F 9:00 am -11:00 and by appointment.

 

I.   Course Description:  The Sports Management Internship involves working under the supervision of a professional coach or administrator in a sport related environment.  Students are expected to complete 67clock hours for each credit hour assigned to them in the major.

 

II.  Attendance:  Regular attendance is a requirement. The instructor reserves the right to drop a student from the internship due to excessive absences. Every unexcused absence after the second (starting with the third) will result in a final grade reduction of one half a letter grade. For example, a person with a final letter grade of B+ and three unexcused absences would receive a final letter grade of B. It is the student's responsibility to communicate with the instructor relative to unexcused and excused absences. (illness, religious observance, and sanctioned college trips).

 

III.  Text:  Not text is required.

 

IV.  Readings:  Based on individual internship experience and setting.

 

V.  Course Content:  Students will develop a learning contract approved by both the college and the supervisor at the host site which specifies objectives, job requirements and work schedules.

 

VI.     Course Organization:

  • 1. Attendance is required for successful completion of the course.
  • 2. Active participation.
  • 3. Daily log, work assignments as announced.
  • 4. Final summary paper.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

•VII.          Course Evaluation:  Based on the site on-site supervisor, daily logs, written material from the students project(S) and a final summary paper.

  • A- 93-90 C- 72-70

B+                   89-86               D+       69-66

B                     85-83               D         65-63  

  • B- 82-80 D- 62-60

C+                           79-76                     E             59 OR BELOW
