Assistant Professor of Theatre – Technical Director


The Department of Theatre and Dance seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre to serve as the
Technical Director. The position includes both academic and production responsibilities. The candidate’s primary
teaching responsibilities will be in the Technical Production and Design sequences. The candidate will be expected
to teach Introduction to Technical Theatre, Drawing and Drafting for the Theatre, Stagecraft I and II, Special
Technical Problems-Stagecraft, Special Topics in Theatre and Sound for The Theatre or Stage Management. The
candidate will serve as an academic advisor to department majors in BA and BFA-Theatrical Production and
Design programs. The candidate will be responsible for all aspects of coordination, supervision, execution and
installation and rigging of all set construction with a staff Scene Shop Manager and student crews. The candidate
will possibly serve as the department Safety Officer and coordinate with the Operations Manager of the Rockefeller
Arts Center and The Office of Environmental Health and Safety in this capacity. As this is a term (tenure-track)
position, there is an expectation of professional work and/or research outside the department in addition to such
work on department productions. The candidate is expected to serve on department and campus committees and
attend department and production meetings as deemed appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications
Master of Fine Arts in Theatre with emphasis in Technical Production. Strong CADD skills and either sound design
and technology or stage management skills. Some professional technical theatre experience. College teaching
experience. Commitment to diversity.

Preferred Qualifications
Two to five years teaching experience. Significant professional experience in commercial or regional theatre
scenic construction. Possess ETCP Stage Rigging Certification. Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching with
technology.

About the Department
The Department of Theatre and Dance offers the BA in Theatre Arts, a minor in Theatre Arts and Dance, and BFA
degrees in Acting, Dance, Musical Theatre, and Theatrical Production and Design (emphases in Costume, Lighting,
or Scenery Design, and Technical Production). The current enrollment of 215 undergraduate students is served by
twelve tenured or tenure-track faculty, plus three full time staff and occasional part-time adjuncts. The
performance-based program mounts five Mainstage Series productions per season and provides technical support
for the Hillman Opera Society annual production, as well as numerous student-produced works. The department is
accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre.
