Miscellaneous Information
Advocacy for EDP Funds
In an effort to help in the lobbying fight to keep fundings for EDP (EOP), we ask all students to contact their respective legislator and let their voice be heard on this very important issue. You can find your legislator here, or simply contact your representatives to participate in this advocacy.
Awards Ceremony
Each year the Education Development Program sponsors an award ceremony to honor high achievers, alumni, staff, and students who make significant academic gains and campus contributions. All students, college faculty, and staff are invited to attend.
Bookstore Charge
All students should apply for an FSA bookstore charge of $400 or more to be used for books. The amount you designate for the bookstore charge should be based on your expected cost of books for the semester. Unused amounts will not be refunded until after the end of the semester.
Calendar
The college calendar can be found in the catalog, course offerings bulletin, and other college publications. Reminders of important dates are included in the ACCENT, EDP's newsletter, and through e-mail communications from the EDP office. Campus Calendar.
Catalog
You should review the college catalog for information on academic programs and policies, student rights, grading, course content, student services, faculty, and graduation requirements. Additional catalogs are available in the EDP office. Additional catalogs are available in the EDP office and on the web here - College Catalog
Chi Alpha Epsilon
Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE) National Honor Society was formed to recognize the academic achievement of students admitted to colleges and universities through non-traditional criteria/opportunity programs. Dr. Elbert M. Saddler, Ph.D., founded Chi Alpha Epsilon in 1990 at West Chester University of Pennsylvania and there are now over 30 chapters in the United States. Eligible students must be full-time (12 credit hours) and hold a 3.0 cumulative GPA for two consecutive semesters. A private initiation, which includes ritual materials for each inductee, is conducted each spring preceding the EDP Awards Ceremony and the pinning takes place during the awards ceremony. Fredonia’s Alpha Mu chapter started in October 1999. Check out XAE's website at Chi Alpa Epsilon.
Cocurricular Transcript
The cocurricular transcript is a document that details the skills a student has developed outside the classroom. Unlike an academic transcript, it lists activities that serve to complement the holistic educational experience. It gives students an opportunity to evaluate the skills acquired for a projected goal while appraising areas of weakness.
Dismissal
Academic Dismissal from the college (required withdrawal) occurs if, after one semester on college probation, the academic record fails to meet established standards. However, you may be dismissed without a semester of probation when the academic record becomes irreparable. Students who are academically dismissed from the college may submit a written appeal to the appropriate Dean explaining the facts which prevented progress and outline a course of action to be followed if reinstatement is granted. Copies of all appeals must be forwarded by the student to the Educational Development Program. Appeals are reviewed by the college's Academic Standings Committee which consists of deans, vice presidents, and department chairs. Academic Affairs coordinates this process. Back to Top
Exit Interview
You must meet with the EDP director or your EDP counselor prior to withdrawing from the college and complete an Exit Interview. This is done whether you are planning on transferring or upon graduation.
Graduate Tuition Scholarship
If you are planning to pursue graduate study at one of the many SUNY schools, you are eligible for an EOP Graduate Tuition Scholarship (tuition waiver). Scholarships are obtained by applying directly to the graduate school of choice. They are available to students who have applied for TAP and plan to enroll full-time. Click here to print out the full guidelines and certificate of participation form (pdf 131 KB).
Intercollegiate Athletics
Academic progress of students participating in intercollegiate athletics will be monitored by the deans, the chair of Health, Wellness, and Recreation, and the EDP director. Student athletes who begin to experience academic difficulty will be advised to obtain tutorial services. If progress is not enhanced, the student will be requested to cease participation.
Newsletter
The Educational Development Program releases a newsletter entitled ACCENT. The newsletter contains pertinent program and college information. Student submissions are greatly encouraged.
Readmission
It is recommended that if you are academically dismissed from the college, you enroll in a community college to obtain additional course work prior to your readmission back into SUNY Fredonia. In the event that you withdraw voluntarily from the college but plan to return, you do not have to apply for readmission if an application for a leave of absence has been approved.
Readmission Petition
Students with a cumulative quality point average of less than 2.00 who have been readmitted to the college may be reinstated with their original cumulative academic record or with a readmission petition. Under the readmission petition, a new quality point average is established from the time of readmission to graduation. The total academic record achieved from the time of initial enrollment at the College at Fredonia will be entered on the transcript, but no credit will be awarded for “D” grades earned prior to readmission. The cumulative quality point average will reflect only the average since readmission, and a minimum of 60 additional credit hours of graded work must be attained prior to graduation and after readmission. The Readmission Committee will review each application to determine readmission status. For more details, check out Student Affairs.
Summer School
Students wishing to take summer courses must complete the summer school registration form obtained from the Registrar. Students should have their FAFSA form and other financial aid completed and then apply for summer school financial aid. Registration for summer courses at other colleges must be approved by the student’s departmental chair. Prior approval forms for transfer credit are available in the college’s Registrar Office. More information can be found here regarding summer sessions (course offerings, CCC listing, deadlines, tuition, financial aid, etc.).
