EDP August Workshop
The Educational Development Program sponsors an August Freshman Workshop designed to acquaint new freshman with the college, its faculty, staff, and services. It is viewed as the beginning of a learning experience which we hope will be culminated by formal and informal workshop sessions which include:
- An introduction to the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the Educational Development Program in order to help the student become more familiar with the EDP Family.
- A discussion of the policies and procedures governing financial assistance to help the student gain a better understanding of the financial assistance available to the student and how to utilize them.
- A review of academic policies and expectations of the college to help the student become familiar and connected to Fredonia State.
- Descriptions of various administrative and academic departmental offices and key personnel which will give the student an extra edge as they begin their college career.
- Assessment testing to help the EDP staff become familiar with the student's academic strengths and weaknesses.
- Academic advisement to allow the student extra time to get to know their EDP counselor and how they can help them.
The August workshop is just the beginning of the on-going process that will help the EDP student excel in their academic standing. The student will also select their first semester's courses during the summer orientation program while participating in a variety of social activities and informational workshops. Required of all program students to attend the summer orientation, it is found that they have a better idea of why they are here and what must be accomplished to be successful.
To continue the process of helping freshman adjust to college life, the student will be enrolled in EDP's Freshman Orientation (SPST 127).
2008 COLLEGE FRESHMEN ORIENTATION (SOAP) AND EDP AUGUST WORKSHOP – You will receive information from the Office of Academic Advising about Fredonia’s two-day summer orientation advising programs (SOAP) in June and July. You will be able to choose courses for the fall at this time. If you need to download the form, go to the Academic Advising Center’s website. Please sign up for one of these sessions. NOTE: The $140 student orientation fee has been covered by our vice president for student affairs. Just write on the form you are EDP and submit no fee for yourself. Any parent fee and the cost of travel is the responsibility of the student and/or parent. The EDP Summer Workshop will run August 21-23—immediately before the fall semester. EDP will cover the meal and lodging costs during this important session where you will have the opportunity to participate in some additional activities to prepare you for your college experience.
