Elluminate Live! Changing Session Layout

There are several layout options for the Elluminate Live! session room. The Default Layout or the Wide Layout are recommended.

To change the Layout of the Elluminate Live! session room

  • Click on the View tab in the upper left-hand side of the Eluminate Live! session.
  • Select Layout from the dropdown menu.
  • Select from the different layout options

Elluminate Live! Setting Permissions


Elluminate Live! permissions may be set when the Eluminate live! session is created. When creating the session, click on the Session Attribute Tab. By clicking in the All Permissions box, students may use all Elluminate Live! tools. By leaving this box blank, students will be denied all permissions.

The instructor may grant or revoke permissions at any time during the Elluminate Live Session.

The Permissions tabs are located in the Participants box of the Elluminate Live! session. These include (from left to right) Microphone, Video, Chat, Application Sharing, and Whiteboard permissions.

To remove or grant all participants' permissions for a specific tool, click on the icon at the top of that tool. To grant or revoke only some students' permissions, click next to that student's name in that tool's column.

Elluminate Live! PowerPoint Presentations

Uploading a PowerPoint presentation to Whiteboard.

  • Click on the Upload Presentation icon in Whiteboard.
  • A Select Screens box will appear.
  • Select where you would like to insert your presentation.
  • Click OK.
  • A Load File box will appear.
  • Navigate to the PowerPoint presentation and select it.
  • Click OK.
  • A Specify Import Screen box will appear.
  • Use default settings.
  • Click Ok.
  • You will see a Converting PowerPoint Presentation box and a upload timer.
  • Your PowerPoint Presentation will appear in the selected screens from step 3.
  • Use the arrows at the top of the whiteboard to navigate through your presentation.

Your PowerPoint presentation will be loaded into whiteboard as a flat file, and may lose some of its formatting features. Participants must have Moderator privileges to upload a presentations.

Elluminate Live! Permissions


Elluminate Live! permissions are granted by the course Instructor.

The instructor may grant or revoke permissions at any time during the Elluminate Live! Session.

The Permissions tabs are located in the Participants box of the Elluminate Live! session. These include (from left to right) Microphone, Video, Chat, Application Sharing, and Whiteboard permissions.

Class participants have access to any Elluminate Live! tool that appears as an icon next to their name in the Participants box.

Elluminate Live! Receiving A File Transfer


During your Elluminate Live! session, your instructor may offer you a file to download.

If your instructor offers you a file, you will receive a prompt asking you if you wish to save the file or cancel.          

Downloading a file.

  • Click save.  
  • A Save window will open.
  • Navigate to the place you wish to save your file.
  • Click Save.

To cancel the file, click cancel.         

  • Retrieving a canceled file
  • Click on Window at the top of the Elluminate Live! session window.
  • Select File Transfer from the drop down menu.
  • The File transfer Window will appear.
  • Download the file.

Elluminate Live! Video


Elluminate Live! Video permissions are granted by the course Instructor. If you have permission to use video, a webcam icon will appear next to your name in the Participants box. The instructor may grant or revoke video permissions at any time during the Elluminate Live! Session.

Using a camcorder

  • Click on the Camcorder icon in you Elluminate Live! session
  • A Video window will open. At the bottom of the window.
  • Choose the quality of your video output.
  • Click Preview to see what the video output looks like.
  • Click Transmit.

To take a picture of yourself

  • Click on the camera icon.
  • The picture will be posted directly to the Whiteboard.

To stop Transmitting

  • Close the Video Window.

Elluminate Live! Web Tour

Whiteboard Web Tours will not allow the moderator or participants to leave the site they are touring and have limited navigation tools. To navigate between different websites, The instructor may wish to choose a search engine as the initial website.

  • Click on the Web Tour icon at the top of the Elluminate Live! session room.
  • A Start Web Tour box will appear.
  • Type in the desired URL in the textbox.
  • You cannot paste the URL into the box.
  • Click OK.
  • A Web Tour window will appear displaying the website.
  • Adjust the size of the Web Tour window.
  • Deselect the Tour guide box in the upper left hand corner of the window to allow participants to tour the website at their own speed.
  • Click the Globe icon In the Web Tour window to publish the URL to chat board.
  • Close the Web Tour window to end the Web Tour.

Elluminate Live! How to Use File Transfer

The File Transfer tool permits files to be uploaded to the server to be shared with everyone in the session. Files and URLs can be transferred. Uploaded files and URLs are pushed out to everyone in the session and must be explicitly saved by the receiving participants and moderators. Use File Transfer to distribute handouts before, during or at the end of the session. At the top of the File Transfer Window, You will see the File Transfer Tools. You may Add a file, Save the file to disk, Delete the file, or Prompt the participants to save the file. At this time, the Upload URL option is not available in Angel.

Loading a File

  • Open the File Transfer window by clicking the File Transfer icon.
  • Click the Load File button at the top of the window.
  • Navigate to your file and select it.
  • Click OK.
  • The file will load to the server.
  • When the Server status indicator reaches 100%, the file is fully uploaded to the server.
  • You will see the file in the File Transfer Window.
  • Participants will receive a prompt alerting them that a download is available.

Giving Participants Permission to Load a File 

  • Open the File Transfer window.
  • Click in the File Transfer column next to the participant’s name.
  • The participant now has the File Transfer icon.
  • Have them open the File Transfer window and select Load File.

Elluminate Live! Application Sharing


Application Sharing allows a moderator or participant to share any application, a specific region of the desktop, or the entire desktop with other attendees. The host of the application can grant remote control of his or her shared application(s) to other participants by granting them permission to use Application Sharing.

Using Application Sharing

  • Open the website or application(s) you wish to share.
  • In your Elluminate Live! session, Click the ApplicationSharing icon.
  • A dialog box will open showing all running applications.
  • Select the application you wish to share.
  • Click OK.
  • The Application will open in the Elluminate Live! session.
  • A dialog box will open with the name of the application you are sharing.
  • Click OK.
  • Begin using the application.

Two ways to exit Application Sharing

  • Close the application.
  • Minimize the application window and Click on the End Application Sharing Icon.

Elluminate Live! Communicating


In an Elluminate Live! session, participants must have permission to use either VOIP or Chat. If you have been granted these permissions, you will see an icon for these tools next to your name in the Participants box. All participants may communicate at any time by using the Raise Hand tool, or by clicking on an Emoticon.

Using VOIP

  • Click on the microphone icon in the Audio box.
  • Speak into your microphone.
  • All Participants will hear your remarks.

Using Chat

  • Type your message into the chat box.
  • Click on the TO box.
  • Select whom you wish to send your message to from the dropdown menu.
  • Click on send.
  • Remember - All moderators can see all texts.

Raise Hand

  • Click on the Raise Hand icon at the bottom of the Participants box.
  • Wait for your Instructor to acknowledge you, or grant you VOIP or Chat Permissions.

Use Emoticons

  • Click one of the Emoticons, next to the Raise Hand icon in the Participants box.

Away From Room

  • Click on the Door icon in the Participants box when you are unavailable.
  • An "Away" message will be displayed next to your name.
  • Click on the Door icon in the Participants box when you return.
  • The "Away" message will no longer be displayed next to your name.

Elluminate Live! Editing and Deleting Sessions and Recordings

Instructors may edit Elluminate Live! sessions before the session begins. They may also delete previous Elluminate Live! sessions and recordings.

Editing a session

  • Login to ANGEL and enter the course.
  • Click on the Communicate tab and locate the Elluminate Live! nugget.
  • Hover over the Elluminate nugget title bar, and click the pencil icon that appears.
  • Use the From calendar to choose the dates of the desired sessions.
  • All sessions will be displayed.
  • Click Edit button next to the session that you wish to Edit,
  • Edit the Elluminate Live! Session using the same process you would to create a session.
  • Click Exit Session Editor.

Deleting a Session or Recording

  • Login to ANGEL and enter the course.
  • Click on the Communicate tab and locate the Elluminate Live! nugget.
  • Hover over the Elluminate nugget title bar, and click the pencil icon that appears.
  • Use the calendars to choose the dates of the desired sessions.
  • All sessions that occurred during those dates will be displayed.
  • Click Delete button next to the session or recording that you wish to Delete.      
  • Click Exit Session Editor

Elluminate Live! Polling

Instructors may poll students periodically during an Elluminate Live! session.

Polling Questions may be verbalized using the microphone, typed directly into Whiteboard, or built into PowerPoint presentations.

The default value for polling questions is True/False. Instructors may also pose multiple choice questions, or inquire about the pace of the session.

To edit the Polling options

  • Click on the Tools tab.
  • Select Polling from the dropdown menu.
  • Click on the desired Polling option.
  • Deselect Make Responses Visible to Hide polling responses from participants.

When Polling has finished, Click on Lock the Responses tool to prevent students from changing their answers. You must Unlock their responses again before taking another poll. Click on the Publish the Polling Statistics Tool, to display the polling results in Whiteboard. Publishing a new poll, will cover the old polling results in Whiteboard. You may select the new polling response and move it to reveal the last poll.
