Accessing Elluminate Live!

To Access Elluminate Live!

  1. Login to ANGEL.
  2. Click on your course.
  3. Click on the Communicate tab. 
  4. Navigate to the Elluminate Live! nugget.
  5. Click on the appropriate session link  ( a search option is provided if there are multiple sessions listed within the nugget). 
  6. Archived sessions can be accessed in by clicking on the ‘Recordings’ link.

Elluminate Live! Manager

Once you have selected the session access link, you will automatically be directed to the Elluminate Live! manager.  The session download will begin automatically. Note that Elluminate Live! utilizes Java.  If you do not have Java installed or are missing a plug-in or applet, the download will stop automatically and the computer will prompt you to upgrade. 

  1. Once the java download has completed, the computer will display a message prompting the user to open the session file.
    1. In IE Explorer

                                               i.     Click Open.

    1. In Firefox
      On PC On Mac
      Your download box will open. When dialogue box opens select Save
      Close Download Box. Download box will appear
      Select Open with Java (TM) Web Start Launcher (default). Double Click on file in downloads
        When Request Access appears select allow
  1. Click OK.
  2. If prompted, click on the Run option.
  3. Click OK, if you receive a security alert.
  4. The Eluminate Live! session will load.
  5. After the file opens, click 'I Agree' to accept the Session Participant Agreement.
  6. When prompted to choose a connection speed, select the 'Cable/DSL' speed for the best performance on a campus computer. If you are accessing the session from home or via a wireless connection, choose the appropriate speed for your connection type.
  7. In the Connection box, you will see Connecting to Host and Authenticating.
  8. If you receive a message stating that connection is lost, Click OK.
  9. If your name is in the Participants box, you have successfully accessed the Elluminate Live! Session.

Audio Configuration

To configure the audio settings for your ELLuminate Live! session before class, please use the Audio Configuration Room.

  1. Login to ANGEL.
  2. Click on your course.
  3. Click on the Resources Nugget.
  4. Click on Elluminate Live! Configuration Room.
    1. If you cannot find the link in your course, Click here Configuration room.
  5. You will be sent to the Knowledge Base page.
  6. In Step 2, click on the Configuration Room Live link.

Download the Configuration Room in the same manner as you download your Elluminate Live! session.

  1. In the upper left-hand side of the window, click on the Tools Tab).
  2. Select Audio, from the drop down menu.
  3. Click on Audio Setup Wizard.
  4. The Select Audio Output Device box will open.
  5. Select your audio output device.
  6. Click OK.
  7. The Speaker Setup box will open.
  8. Click Play.
  9. A recording will Play.
  10. Use the slider to select the appropriate volume.
    1. speaker display should be mostly in the green zone.
  11. The Speaker Setup Confirmation Box will open.
    1. Click Yes, if you are happy with the sound quality of your speakers.
    2. Click no, to repeat the configuration process.
  12. The Select Audio Input Device box will open.
  13. Select your audio input device.
  14. Click OK.
  15. The Microphone Setup box will open.
  16. Click Record.
  17. Talk in a normal speaking voice.
  18. Use the slider to select the appropriate volume.
    1. microphone display should be mostly in the green zone.
  19. The Microphone Playback box will open.
  20. Click Play.
  21. Listen to the recording for quality.
  22. Click stop.
  23. The Microphone Setup Confirmation Box will open.
    1. Click Yes, if you are happy with the sound quality of your microphone sound.
    2. Click no, to repeat the configuration process.
  24. The Setup Complete box will appear.
  25. Click OK.

You may also configure your Audio settings at any time during your Elluminate Live! session by following steps 1-25 above.

Elluminate Live! Changing Session Layout

There are several layout options for the Elluminate Live! session room. The Default Layout or the Wide Layout are recommended.

To change the Layout of the Elluminate Live! session room

  1. Click on the View tab in the upper left-hand side of the Eluminate Live! session.
  2. Select Layout from the dropdown menu.
  3. Select from the different layout options.

Elluminate Live! Permissions


Elluminate Live! permissions are granted by the course Instructor. The instructor may grant or revoke permissions at any time during the Elluminate Live! Session. The Permissions tabs are located in the Participants box of the Elluminate Live! session. These include (from left to right) Microphone, Video, Chat, Application Sharing, and Whiteboard permissions. Class participants have access to any Elluminate Live! tool that appears as an icon next to their name in the Participants box.

Elluminate Live! Communicating


In an Elluminate Live! session, participants must have permission to use either VOIP or Chat. If you have been granted these permissions, you will see an icon for these tools next to your name in the Participants box. All participants may communicate at any time by using the Raise Hand tool, or by clicking on an Emoticon.

Using VOIP

  1. Click on the microphone icon in the Audio box.
  2. Speak into your microphone.
  3. All Participants will hear your remarks.

Using Chat

  1. Type your message into the chat box.
  2. Click on the TO box.
  3. Select whom you wish to send your message to from the dropdown menu.
  4. Click on send.
  • Remember - All moderators can see all texts.

Raise Hand

  1. Click on the Raise Hand icon.
  2. Wait for your Instructor to acknowledge you, or grant you VOIP or Chat Permissions.

Use Emoticons

  1. Click on one of the Emoticons.

Away From Room

  1. Click on the Door icon in the Participants box when you are unavailable.
  • An "Away" message will be displayed next to your name.
  1. Click on the Door icon in the Participants box when you return.
  • The "Away" message will no longer be displayed next to your name.

Elluminate Live! Receiving A File Transfer

During your Elluminate Live! session, your instructor may offer you a file to download.

If your instructor offers you a file, you will receive a prompt asking you if you wish to save the file or cancel. 

Downloading a file

  1. Click save.
  2. A Save window will open.
  3. Navigate to the place you wish to save your file.
  4. Click Save.

To cancel the file, click cancel.          

Retrieving a canceled file

  1. Click on Window at the top of the Elluminate Live! session window.
  2. Select File Transfer from the drop down menu.
  3. The File transfer Window will appear.
  4. Download the file.

Elluminate Live! Video


Elluminate Live! Video permissions are granted by the course Instructor. If you have permission to use video, a webcam icon will appear next to your name in the Participants box. The instructor may grant or revoke video permissions at any time during the Elluminate Live! Session.

Using a camcorder

  1. Click on the Camcorder icon in you Elluminate Live! session
  2. A Video window will open. At the bottom of the window.
  3. Choose the quality of your video output.
  4. Click Preview to see what the video output looks like.
  5. Click Transmit.

To take a picture of yourself

  1. Click on the camera icon.
  2. The picture will be posted directly to the Whiteboard.

To stop Transmitting, close the Video Window.

Elluminate Live! Recordings

Elluminate Live! sessions may be recorded. If your instructor chooses to record a session, you may access the session after it ha ended.                           

To Access Elluminate Live! Recordings

  1. Login to ANGEL.
  2. Click on your course.
  3. Click on the Communicate tab. 
  4. Click on Recordings.
  5. Navigate to the Elluminate Live! nugget.
  6. Use the From calendar to choose the dates of the desired sessions.
  7. Click on the appropriate recordings link. 

Elluminate Live! Manager

Once you have selected the recordings access link, you will automatically be directed to the Elluminate Live! manager.  The session download will begin exactly as if you were accessing a Elluminat Live! session. If you need help, please reference "Accessing an Elluminate Live! Session in Angel".       

Once the recording has finished downloading, you will see the Elluminate Live! session room.

As this is an archived session, you will not be able to interact within the session. You will however, still be able to download any files that that the Instructor offered as a File Transfer.

If you cannot hear the recordings

  1. Click on Tools.
  2. Select Audio from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click on Select Output Device.
  4. You will see the Select Audio Output prompt box.
  5. Choose your speakers.
  6. Click Ok.
