After your observations at the Learning Center, you will write two reports summarizing what occurred during the tutoring session and analyzing the methods of the tutoring session. BUT FIRST, 1. Set up a time for an appointment. See Dr. West for more details about this process. 2. Get permission from both the tutor and the client to observe. You'll want to talk to the tutor after the session, so allow extra time. 3. Be on time. 4. Take notes (discreetly). 5. Be open-minded. Try not to jump to conclusions about the client or the tutor. Your job is to observe and be open to multiple meanings, not to evaluate. 6. Talk to the tutor afterward to find out answers to questions you had about the session or the client. 7. Reflect on the session. Use the questions on e-reserve (Angel) to write your observation reports.
Observation Report 1: You'll observe a tutor and client and write up your reflections in a coherent paper. I'm not looking for yes/no or short answers to all the questions on e-reserve. Rather, you should choose the issues that stood out most in the session and write your observations about them. The questions are just a guideline. A SOLID DRAFT OF THIS PAPER IS DUE FEBRUARY 19.
Observation Report 2: You'll take a paper you are currently working on into the Learning Center and become the client. Use the same questions as before for inspiration, but again concentrate on the issues that stood out the most to you and your reactions on becoming the client. A SOLID DRAFT OF THIS PAPER IS DUE APRIL 2.
