Critique for Unit Plans/Projects

English 250 Literacy and Technology

Dr. Susan Spangler, Instructor

Rationale:  One of the standards for teacher technology use includes the ability to evaluate the use of technology as it applies to learning.  This assignment provides you with an opportunity to collaborate with another teacher and assess the use of technology in a realistic learning situation.

After completing the unit/project provided to you by another teacher, take time to reflect on the following items:

  • The assignment sheet(s).  Reflect on the clarity of instructions/overview of the unit/project.  How well did you as the student understand what you were supposed to do?  How well did you understand the purpose behind the lessons/project.  Did you understand why you were being asked to do what you did?  Give the teacher suggestions for making their assignments clear and understandable.
  • The time.  Was enough time allotted by the teacher to complete the assignment(s) thoroughly?  Comment on the time it took you to do what was asked of you.
  • The assessments.  Was/were the evaluation(s) for the assignment(s) clearly revealed before you began?  Did you understand the criteria for assessment?  Were there areas you felt should have been evaluated that weren’t?  Was there too much assessment?  Do you feel the objectives for the unit/project (see the unit/project plans) were reflected in the assessments?
  • The technology.  How difficult was it to use the technology to complete the tasks?  Did you need more direct instruction?  None?  Was the technology appropriate for the tasks asked of you?  Did the technology enhance the tasks, or was it an "add-on."  Could the same objectives have been met without using the technology?
