What You Should Do To Prepare!
1) Go to FAFSA4caster to receive an early estimate of eligibility for federal student aid. This Web site will provide you with an opportunity to increase your knowledge of the financial aid process: become familiar with the various types of federal student aid that are available; and investigate other sources of aid, such as grants and scholarships.When you're ready to apply for aid, you can easily transition from FAFSA4caster to FAFSA on the Web. Much of the information that you enter in the FAFSA4caster will populate your FAFSA on the Web application, making the experience of applying for federal student aid a lot easier. Please note that a Federal Student Aid PIN will be generated as part of the FAFSA4caster process. At least one parent will have to follow Step #2 to get a Personal Identification Number (PIN).2) PIN Number Each student aid applicant and at least one parent (if applying on the web) must get a Personal Identification Number (PIN) by to www.pin.ed.gov. The pin application process will take less than five minutes and you will receive you PIN in 72 hours or less.
3) Complete 2010-2011 FAFSA on the Web Worksheet Once you are registered for the program, the 2010-2011 FAFSA on the Web Pre-Application Worksheet will be mailed to you along with a confirmation letter. Please note that if you completed the FAFSA4caster you do not need to complete the 2010-11 FAFSA on the Web Worksheet.
4) You should also bring the following:
- Student and parent's social security numbers
- Student and parent's driver's licenses (if applicable)
- Student and parent's W-2 forms and other records of income earned for 2009
- 2009 bank statements for student and parents
- 2009 farm (unless you reside on the farm) information and business information (if business has more than 100 full-time employees)
- Stock, bond, and other investment information
- Alien registration card (non-U.S. citizens) (if applicable)
- Student's and parent's 2008 Federal Income Tax Return (Please estimate if not completed)
- 2009 untaxed income information
