How to apply for Financial Aid

Please check with other institutions as they may have different instructions.A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal Application must be filed each year. Many "Campus-based" aid programs with limited funding are depleted early, so filing should be done as soon as possible after January 1st.Download free Adobe Acrobat Reader 2007-08 FAFSA on the Web Pre-Application Worksheet (81 KB)Although parent's information may be required, it is the student's responsibility to complete all application requirements for all aid programs. Students must be sure to indicate "SUNY College at Fredonia" in the college release section of the FAFSA/Renewal application (school code 002844).The FAFSA/Renewal Application is the form used for Federal Pell Grants, Federal Stafford Loans, and the three "Campus-based" programs-Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Federal Perkins Loan and Federal Work Study Program.New York State residents will receive a pre-printed Express Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application (ETA) after filing a FAFSA/Renewal Application, which will need to be completed and send it to New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (NYSHESC) in Albany, New York. Students who are determined eligible for Federal Stafford Loans will receive a Master Promissory Note which they will need to sign and send back to NYSHESC for final approval.Only approved Financial Aid can be used as a credit toward direct college charges.If the student is selected for verification, a Verification Worksheet will be sent shortly after the first award letter.  The Verification Worksheet forms are available below:

  • The Verification Worksheet needs to be completed and returned to the SUNY Fredonia Financial Aid Office along with Federal tax returns and W-2s.
  • Dependent students must also provide their parents' Federal returns and W-2s.
  • If you are applying at more than one school, you may need to provide the copies of the same documents to all schools.
