Financial Aid Application Procedures

Federal and State Financial Aid is available for students who will be enrolled at Fredonia during Summer 2009. Students applying for summer financial aid must complete both the 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Summer Financial Aid Application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Summer Aid Available at SUNY Fredonia
- TAP GRANT
- Must be a New York State resident.
- Must be enrolled a minimum of 6 credit hours during Summer 1 and/or Summer 2 and meet New York State income guidelines and be taking classes at SUNY Fredonia in the summer.
- Must have accrued 24 credit hours in the previous two consecutive semesters at SUNY Fredonia.
- Cannot be used as a credit towards direct Summer charges (tuition/fees).
- Not paid to you until October 2010 as per New York State TAP regulations.
- PELL GRANT
- Must meet PELL eligibility requirements.
- Receipt of Pell in Summer I Only may reduce your Pell eligibility during the subsequent Fall/Spring semesters.
- Only used as credit towards your bill if it is an authorized amount.
- Pell will not be paid and potentially refunded until the middle of July for Summer 1 and/or Summer 2.
*Due to new regulations in the HEOA, as of July 1, 2009 federal Pell Grants can now be received year round without reducing a subsequent semester Pell award. This new regulation may increase your Pell Grant award during the 2009-2010 award year.
- ACADEMIC COMPETITIVENESS GRANT (ACG)
- Must meet ACG eligibility requirements.
- Must be enrolled a minimum of 6 credit hours with enrollment in Summer 2. (Summer 1 only enrollment = not eligible)
- Receipt of ACG in summer will decrease the amount available during the subsequent Fall/Spring Semesters.
- Only used as credit towards your bill if it is an authorized amount.
- ACG will not be paid and potentially refunded until the middle of July for Summer 1 and Summer 2.
- Award amount will be based on enrollment status.
- NATIONAL SCIENCE AND MATH ACCESS TO RETAIN TALENT GRANT (SMART)
- Must meet SMART eligibility requirements.
- Must be enrolled a minimum of 6 credit hours with enrollment in Summer 2. (Summer 1 only enrollment = not eligible)
- Receipt of SMART in summer will decrease the amount available during the subsequent Fall/Spring semesters.
- Only used as credit towards your bill if it is an authorized amount.
- SMART will not be paid and potentially refunded until the middle of July for Summer 1 and Summer 2.
- Award amount will be based on enrollment status.
- Must take at least one course specific to and required for the SMART eligible major during Summer 1 and/or Summer 2.
- FEDERAL TEACH GRANT
- Must meet TEACH eligibility requirements, including academic certification. Please click here for more information regarding TEACH eligibility.
- TEACH Entrance Counseling and the Agreement To Serve (ATS) must be completed in order for TEACH to be used as credit towards your bill.
- TEACH will not be paid and potentially refunded until the middle of July for Summer 1 and/or Summer 2.
- STAFFORD LOAN (SUBSIDIZED AND UNSUBSIDIZED)
- Must be enrolled a minimum of 6 credit hours during Summer 1 and / or Summer 2.
- Receipt of Stafford Loan in Summer will decrease the amount available during the subsequent Fall/Spring semesters. Federal Regulations allow an annual 12 month maximum loan limit depending on your year in college. Loan limits are as follows: Freshmen $5,500; Sophomore $6,500; Junior & Senior $7,500.
- First Time Stafford Loan Borrowers must click here to begin the Stafford Loan process and complete the eMPN.
- You will be notified of the approved amount with a "Stafford Loan Disclosure Statement" from New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, which gives final approval/guarantee information.
- Used as a credit towards your bill if the loan has been approved by NYSHESC. *(see below)
- FEDERAL PLUS LOAN
- Must be enrolled a minimum of 6 credit hours during Summer 1 and Summer 2.

- ALTERNATIVE LOANS
- Click here to apply on-line for an Alternative Loan.
- Notification of approval or denial will be sent to you by your lender.
- Used as a credit towards your bill when loan has been approved by your lender.*(see below)
- Some lenders will not process an alternative loan for 3 credit hours or less. Please check with your lender.

*Students taking less then 6 credit hours in Summer Session 1 may only use an approved Alternative Loan, TEACH, or Pell for deferral. All others must pay at the time of registration. If Summer Session 2 registration allows the student to be eligible for Stafford Loans, they may be eligible to defer the Summer Session 2 payment. |
