What is Financial Aid?

Financial Aid can help you pay for your studies at any approved college, community college, business or vocational school. It is provided by the federal and state governments, colleges, and private organizations.

Financial Aid is meant to supplement your family's ability to pay for college costs: tuition/fees, room and board, books, supplies, transportation, and other education expenses. Whether or not you get financial aid will depend on your demonstrated financial need, a special talent or ability that you may have, or some other standard of eligibility.

Financial Aid comes in the form of any grant/scholarship, loan or paid employment offered to help you meet your college expenses. Grants include aid the student receives that need not be repaid; loans must be repaid. Interest rates and repayment terms vary by program. Employment is aid based on an hourly rate for work performed.
