Unrestricted gifts are supporting
the priority needs of Fredonia

Donors who make gifts without stipulating how they should be used are providing "unrestricted" funding that allows Fredonia the ability to apply them toward its immediate priorities, ranging from day to day operations to sudden emergencies, to rare opportunities.

The world around Fredonia constantly changes, and the dynamism of the campus reflects this. But with these changes come new economic realities and pressures faced by students and families, and special diligence must be paid to guaranteeing that their investment is worth every penny. As a result, in recent years, Fredonia has applied its unrestricted gifts to strategically-designed scholarships, as well as grants to assist needy students and to support foundation programs.

Unrestricted, Named Endowments

Unrestricted funds are often the key to converting a good idea into meaningful action in the challenging and ever-changing landscape of higher education. Donors may establish their own named unrestricted endowment or give to an existing fund.

The following Named Endowments are unrestricted gifts to Fredonia. Designating an endowment gift as "unrestricted" allows the university to apply the income to meet its most urgent needs.

  • Gertrude Maytum Garland Endowment Awards - made at recommendation of Fredonia President
  • Walter Gotowka Family Endowment (alumni '81, '80, respectively)
  • Kathryn Hakes Endowment
  • Mintun Family Fund
  • Al Newman Fund
  • Title III Endowment - Provides unrestricted funds for the benefit of the College of Arts and Humanities
  • George and Barbara Luke Weaver Fund (alumna '44) - Provides unrestricted support for projects, programs, activities or scholarships

Endowments can also be unrestricted

Some donors have created Named Endowments that are unrestricted. This designation allows the university to apply the income to its most urgent needs. More information on creating an endowment
