Eileen Ballerstein | B.S. Geology | 2002
Eileen is a GIS analyst with the environmental consulting firm, Blasland, Bouck & Lee (BBL), in Syracuse. She completed her master's degree in the Geology department at SUNY Buffalo, where she used remote sensing, GIS, and hydrologic modeling to study an in the SW desert of Egypt. While at SUNY Buffalo, she also took courses in the Geography department.

John Barthelmes | B.S. Computer Science & Mathematics | 1996
John is a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of Rochester. He also teaches at St. John Fisher College.

Joshua Been | B.A. History | 1997
Joshua Been earned a Master's degree in Library Science from SUNY Buffalo. He is currently the GIS Librarian at the University of Texas at Arlington. Joshua recently coauthored the article, "Faculty and their Institutional Librarians: Developing Labor Capital by Using GIS to Teach Social Science," which was published in the National Social Science Journal, vol. 22, iss. 1 (2004).

Kevin Braun | B.A. English | Minor GIS | 2008
Kevin is working on geospatial projects for Bergmann Associates in downtown Rochester. His GIS internship, while a student at SUNY Fredonia was with Bergmann Associates' Buffalo office and involved building a GIS Septic Inspection database for Chautauqua County, New York.

Ian Bruce | B.S. Biology | Minor GIS | 2003
Ian graduated from Buffalo State College with a master's degree in geography specializing in GIS He was a research assistant to Professor Tao Tang. Ian was the recipient of the 2003 ASPRS Student of the Year Award.

Jessica Carpenter | B.S. Environmental Sciences | Minor GIS | 2003
Jessica completed internships with the Dunkirk-Sheridan Economic Development Zone and Southern Tier West Regional Development & Planning Board. She was also employed as a GIS technician with URS Corporation in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She worked with FEMA and the Hurricane Katrina disaster relief effort. Jessica currently resides in Pittsburgh.

Jonathan is a GIS Analyst with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service in Jackson, Wyoming.

Mike Darr | B.S. Biology (Alfred University)
Mike is a GIS analyst with Forecon, Inc., a forestry consulting firm in Jamestown. He has also done some data conversion work for Chautauqua Institution. Mike also teaches GIS at Jamestown Community College.

Maria Dolce | B.S. Computer Science | Minor GIS | 2001
Maria is currently with the Horry County IT/GIS Department in Myrtle Beach. Prior to that, she was a GIS Specialist with URS Corporation in Buffalo. She completed a Master's degree in Geography at Buffalo State College. She worked with Professor Tao Tang. While a student at Fredonia, she did data conversion work for Woodbury Surveying and Geomatics. She also worked on a project for the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department doing geocoding and map design and layout.

Merissa Harvey | B.S. Geololgy | Minor GIS | 2004
Merissa was the recipient of the 2004 Award for Spatial Studies. She completed an internship with the Chautauqua County WaterNet project. She also worked on the study of the Conewango Creek Dredge in Cherry Creek, which was funded by CHRIC (Chautauqua Home Rehabilitation & Improvement Corporation). Merissa is a graduate student in the master's program in Geography with a concentration in GIS at SUNY Buffalo.

Rachael Heltz Herman | B.S. Environmental Sciences | Minor GIS | 2003
Rachael was the recipient of the 2003 Award for Spatial Studies. She completed an internship with the Dunkirk-Sheridan Economic Development Zone. Currently, Rachael is an Environmental GIS Manager with at the Center for Geospatial Information Technology (CGIT) at Virginia Tech. She is also a graduate student at Virginia Tech in Crop and Soil Science.

Gerri Jayne is a GIS analyst for the Seneca Nation of Indians in Irving, New York.

Howard manages geospatial business units in Federal agencies for RedShift Investments.

Natalie Lane Hoel | B.S. Geology | 199?
Natalie is the program manager at Akanda Innovation, where she helps develop and implement comprehensive solutions for E-Government. She has a master's degree in geography from Murray State University. She is a former ESRI Technical Support team leader.

Amber completed her master's degree in Geography with a concentration in GIS at SUNY Buffalo. She is currently a GIS Analyst with Ecology & Environment, Inc. in Portland, Oregon.

Mike is a graduate student in education at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia. He's also substitute teaching.

Dan is the GIS Coordinator for Cattaraugus County, New York. Prior to that he was a GIS Analyst with Southern Tier West Regional Planning & Development Board following a college internship there. Recently, Dan hit the big time and made the Spring 2006 issue of ArcNews. Congratulations, Dan!

Shea is the 2007 winner of the Spatial Studies Award. Currently he works for the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.

Matt Mercurio | B.S. Computer Science | 2000
Matt is a Customer Engineer at ATTO Technology, Inc. in Amherst, NY. In the past, Matt did GIS work for Chautauqua Institution and the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department. He was also employed as a transportation analyst at Southern Tier West Regional Planning & Development Board in Salamanca.

Kevin completed his master's degree SUNY Buffalo. He is now in California teaching and pursuing further graduate work. While a student at Fredonia, he completed internships in GIS with Southern Tier West Regional Development & Planning Board and the Chautauqua County Department of Planning.

While a student at Fredonia, Chuck developed, implemented, and demonstrated a handheld mapping program for Palm OS and Windows CE/Pocket PC handheld devices.

Sharon completed her master's degree in Geophysics at the University of Alaska. She lives in Fairbanks.

Richard Santi | B.A. History | 1997
Richard completed his master's degree in Geography (Cartography and GIS) at SUNY at Buffalo. He has worked as a GIS analyst with URS Corporation and GIS Resource Group in Buffalo. He completed his internship with ESRI in Boston. He is currently stationed in Iraq.

Grant Saunders | B.S. Interdisciplinary Studies | 2008
Grant is an Engineering/GIS Technician with Nussbaumer & Clarke, Inc. in Buffalo. He completed an internship there while a student at SUNY Fredonia. Grant was the recipient of the 2008 Award for Spatial Studies. Prior to his Fredonia experience, Grant was in the U.S. Navy.

Brian Schrantz | B.A. Economics | Minor GIS | 1996
Brian works in enterprise GIS deployment with EMA, a consulting firm specializing in technology and management solutions for utility, municipal, and manufacturing organizations. Prior to EMA, Brian was a regional research analyst in charge of GIS applications at Southern Tier West Regional Planning & Development Board in Salamanca. He is an ESRI authorized instructor. He completed his GIS internship with the Dunkirk Department of Public Works. Brian was the first student to graduate with a minor in GIS from Fredonia!

Ted is currently working at the U.S. Census Bureau in Maryland.

Laurie Serrett Cooper | B.S. Geology | Minor GIS | 1998
Laurie is a GIS Analyst with Tele Atlas in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Prior to that she was the Transportation Industry Coordinator for ESRI in Redlands, California. Laurie has also been a GIS Analyst with the New York State Department of Transportation in Albany and Forecon, Inc. in Jamestown, New York. She completed a GIS internship with USGS at Woods Hole, Massachusetts. She also has her master's degree in Geography (Cartography and GIS) from SUNY at Buffalo. As undergraduate at SUNY Fredonia, she completed an internship in GIS with Southern Tier West Regional Development & Planning Board

Dawn is currently working for the WaterNet project in Chautauqua County. She was the 2005 winner of the Spatial Studies Award.

Sam is a graduate student in Economics at SUNY Buffalo. She was the 2006 winner of the Spatial Studies Award.

Greg Shot | B.S. Geology | 1996
Greg is living in Charlotte, North Carolina where he is a Geographic Planning Specialist with Wachovia . He's in the Market and Vacility Planning department at Wachovia, siting new locations for bank branches and ATMs. Previously, he was with Tele Atlas North America, which specializes in digital mapping. Prior to that, he worked for the U.S. Census Bureau in Charlotte.

Jeremy Sikora | B.S. Health Service Administration | Minor GIS | 1997
Jeremy completed his master's degree in Geography (Cartography and GIS) at SUNY Buffalo. He has worked as a GIS analyst with Verdi & Co. in Buffalo and completed his internship with ESRI in Boston. Currently is employed with HSBC in Buffalo.

Scott Van Alstine | B.A. Education & English | Minor GIS | 2000
Scott is a graduate student at George Washington University. Prior to that, he taught in Armenia at the Armenian Agricultural Academy, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Scott first went to Armenia as a Peace Corps volunteer.

Matt works for Mortensen Engineering, a geotechnical engineering firm, in Tampa, Florida. He locates and logs soil borings.

Darren Weinstock | B.S. Business Administration | 1998
Darren graduated from SUNY Buffalo in 2000 with an MBA. He's a Senior Data Analyst with Pitney Bowes Business Insight.
