M.M. in Performance

In addition to the application process needed by the Office of Graduate Studies, applicants seeking the Master of Music in Performance degree must audition for and be accepted by the appropriate applied music faculty.

Requirements for Admission:

This degree program offers three possible tracks: Orchestra Instruments and Piano, Conducting, and Voice. The degree requires at minimum a successful completion of 30 semester hours of coursework (Orchestra Instruments, Piano and Conducting tracks), or 34 hours of coursework (Voice track). Each track requires the core curriculum as well as specific requirements divided between performance training, theory/history, and elective courses. A comprehensive oral examination and performance culminate the program.

M.M. in Performance - ORCHESTRAL INSTRUMENTS, PIANO AND CONDUCTING

b. Electives: To complete the degree program, students will elect Plan A or Plan B with approval of graduate advisor from the School of Music
Plan A: Minimum of 10 credit hours of major elective courses within the School of Music. Elective courses may be in Theory, History and Literature, opera craft, stage direction, and supporting areas of arts and sciences related to performance
 
Plan B: Minimum of 4 credit hours of major elective courses within the School of Music, plus a minimum of 6 credit hours outside the major or outside the department. Electives may include courses of special interest such as, but not limited to, opera craft, stage direction, language, literature, vocal pedagogy/speech pathology with approval of graduate music advisor.
