Application Deadlines & Timelines

apply options

At SUNY Fredonia, we offer the flexibility you need to start and complete your graduate degree.  With four separate admission semesters to choose from, you can begin your degree at almost any time of the year and tailor your program to fit your needs.  Please check out our planning timeline for tips about how to complete your graduate application in a timely and stress-free manner.

Application Cycles

You can create an account and work on an application for any semester at any time, but will only be able to submit applications during the cycles, as noted below.  The application fee is $75 if you submit your application by the deadline.  Late applications will be accepted with a fee of $100 ($25 late fee).

If you have any questions, please email our office and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

J-Term

Application Deadline: November 1

J-Term is a four-week compressed session that occurs between the fall and spring semesters.  While it is unusual for students to begin their graduate work during this term, we do accept applications for J-Term.  You may submit an application for J-Term beginning September 1 and the application submission deadline is November 1.  Application submissions will not be accepted after December 20.

Spring Semester

Application Deadline: November 1

The spring semester usually starts during the third week in January and ends in mid-May.  You may start working on your application at any time.  We will accept application submissions starting on September 1 and the application deadline is November 1.  Late applications for degree study will be accepted until January 11.  Non-degree applications may be accepted after that date at the discretion of the admissions committee.

Speech-Language Pathology Program

Application Deadline: February 1

The Speech-Language Pathology program offers fall admission only.  You may work on your application at any time but will be unable to submit your application until January 1, the start date for this cycle.  The application submission deadline is February 1 and late applications are not accepted.  You will be unable to submit an application after February 1.

Summer

Application Deadline: April 1

We offer two summer semesters at SUNY Fredonia.  Each lasts roughly four weeks, and class schedules vary in frequency and length.  Please check out the Summer Session website for information on classes offered.

The application deadline for admission to degree programs is April 1, though if you're interested in taking summer coursework for professional/personal development or as a visiting student, you may apply after that date as long as you follow the guidelines and deadlines published on the Summer Session website.

You may pay the late application fee and submit your application after April 1, but since many faculty members are off campus during the summer months you risk not having your application reviewed in time to start as a matriculated graduate student.  If this happens, you may request or be offered the opportunity to start graduate work as a non-degree student, but it will be your responsibility to follow up with our office to make sure your file is reviewed by the appropriate department for matriculated acceptance.  Information about non-degree graduate study at SUNY Fredonia is here.

Fall Semester

Application Deadline: April 1

The fall semester usually starts during the third week in August and ends in mid-December.  We will accept application submissions starting on February 16 and the application deadline is April 1.  Late applications for degree study will be accepted through the first week in August.  Non-degree applications may be accepted after that date at the discretion of the admissions committee.
