These programs serve to prepare students for admission to Ph.D. programs in the biological and biomedical sciences, professional careers in the public and private sectors, technical work in education, medical and environmental settings, and teaching at the secondary education and two-year college levels.

Applicants to the M.S. in Biology program must have an undergraduate major in Biology or related science with requisite evidence of training and motivation necessary to succeed in graduate study. Supporting science background should include physics, calculus, and organic chemistry. Prospective students should forward Graduate Record Exam scores along with their application for admission consideration.

 

Admission Requirements

  • An undergraduate major in the Life Sciences with requisite evidence of training and motivation necessary to succeed in graduate study.
  • Supporting science background to include physics, calculus, and organic chemistry.
  • The Graduate Record Exam is recommended. Please indicate that your scores be sent to SUNY Fredonia.
  • A completed graduate application

 

Program Requirements


The degree comprises 30 credit hours of graduate level coursework with both a thesis and non-thesis option available.

 arrow Thesis Option Program Outline

A minimum of 30 semester hours is required, as follows:

  • Seminar (three semesters)
  • Thesis Research
  • Appropriate course work as advised (at least 21 credit hours)
  • Written Thesis
  • Final Comprehensive Examination

Thesis Option applicants are required to have contacted a faculty member and obtained their approval for entry into their laboratory for thesis work. Without contact and approval from a faculty member your application will not be reviewed for acceptance into the Biology Graduate Program. You can find faculty interests and contact information on the Biology Department website

    *BIOL 690-BIOL 691 may not be used toward the Non-Thesis Option.
