Arlington Manor was the country home of Sir Francis and Lady June at which Hardy was a frequent visitor. Hardy comments on its cheerfunless in The Life and Work of Thomas Hardy, ed. Michael Millgate (London and Basingstoke: Macmillan, 1984), p. 276. This site provides a picture of the house, now a school for deaf children.
