A collection of pages and links related to the study of Tess of the d'Urbervilles--part of an on-line program by Charles Stuart University, New South Wales, Australia, for students who have had no personal or family experience with tertiary study and are seeking a Higher School Certificate (HSC). This Tess of the d'Urbervilles page is divided into three main parts:

COMMENT:
"Tutorials" consists primarily of the text of an address (some fifty brief paragraphs) to undergraduates by David B. Cornelius on Tess; it is broken into the following parts: "Introduction," "Setting," "Theme[s]," "Character," and "Hardy and pessimism." The "Sample Essays" are very short essay-examination commentaries by a student from Pymble Lady's College, Sidney. "Resource" consists of links to five other web sites, all of which are described and linked from this site. Two of them--those called "Discussion about theme in Tess" and "The Thomas Hardy Society"--have been given strongly negative evaluations; see Link C 12 "Research Paper--Hardy" and Link A 25 "The Thomas Hardy On-Line Society". The "Exams" are not specifically related to Hardy.
