CONCORDANCES

DESCRIPTION:

Address:
http://www.concordance.com/hardy.htm [NOW CLOSED]
Contact: Bill Williams (willprog@sprintmail.com)
Date: 04/02/03

The personal site of Bill Williams, a retired actuary with an M.A. in mathematics from the University of Utah. Includes concordances to many texts, as well as links to sources of e-texts on the Internet, to sites related to specific authors, and to sites about religion in general and about Mormonism in particular.

The Hardy section provides concordances to Jude the Obscure, The Mayor of Casterbridge, The Return of the Native, Far from the Madding Crowd, and Tess of the d'Urbervilles. These concordances can be used in five ways:

  1. To find occurrences of a word or pair of words.
  2. To choose a letter and see a list of words in the concordance beginning with that word.
  3. To go to a location in the text.
  4. To go to an item in the table of contents.
  5. To see a list of words in the order of the number of their occurrences in the text.

COMMENT:

In the absence of scholarly concordances based on authoritative texts of Hardy's fiction, these are a welcome resource. Unfortunately, they are derived from Project Gutenberg texts. See the comment on Link A 7
, Project Gutenberg, and our GENERAL CAUTION about such texts.
