The Thomas Hardy "Writer" page provides a filmography of twenty-four films and television productions based on Hardy's writings, ranging from a 1913 film of Tess of the d'Urbervilles to a 2001 adaptation of the Mayor of Casterbridge. The filmography also includes film and/or television adaptations of "A Tragedy of Two Ambitions," "The Melancholy Hussar," Exploits at West Poley, The Woodlanders, Jude the Obscure, The Mayor of Casterbridge, Far from the Madding Crowd, and Under the Greenwood Tree. 1. a list of production data, including details about director, cast, author(s), and crew
  2. information about how to buy the film
  3. a plot summary
  4. quotes from the film
  5. locations where the film was shot
  6. ratings by IMDB users
  7. release dates by country,as well as current showings
  8. technical information about time length and format
  9. studio blurbs

COMMENT:

Although this site is supported by advertisers, its film coverage is relatively objective. The 32 texts of reviews "external" and "newsgroup" it provides for the 1996 film version of Jude the Obscure, for example, are representative of the widely divergent estimations of that production.

SUMMARY:

As a source of reliable information on the Internet about film and television dramatizations of Hardy's works, this site is unsurpassed.
