This page includes a poem beginning, "To sorrow / You bade good morrow," attributed by Ni, Sidao to Thomas Hardy.

COMMENT:

The poem is not by Hardy but part of a song in John Keats's Endymion, Book IV, ll. 173-181, which Hardy quoted, without identifying its authorship, as an epigraph to The Return of the Native.* Ni's quotation alters some of the punctuation of the poem and changes first person pronouns to second person.

*I am indebted to William Morgan of Illinois State University for identifying the poem's authorship and to Martin Ray of Aberdeen University for pointing out to me its role in The Return of the Native.
