Part of a program of the American Academey of Poets. This page is part of a "Literature of War High School Teachng Unit" devised by Harvey Starbuck, Olathe High School, Olathe Colorado. Students are asked to prepare a list of 7-10 character traits essential for someone to be considered a good soldier, then to read three poems, including Hardy's "The Man He Killed," and to pick a speaker from one of the poems the student regards as best matching the character traits and to write a five-paragraph essay defending that choice.
