A sub-page of the "Modern British Literature Index"
created by Roger Blackwell Bailey as part of the "San
Antonio College LitWeb." The page consists of two chief parts.
(1) "Major Works" notes the availability of the Oxford
World's Classics, the Penguin editions, and the Macmillan
Collected Short Stories; it also provides a list that includes
titles and dates of many, but not all, of Hardy's major writings,
with links to some e-texts. (2) "About Hardy" provides a
selective bibliography of primary and secondary sources, as well
as a links to remote sites.
COMMENT: :
The information provided on this site is oddly selective,
and potentially misleading. Its list of major works
in print provides information about a few modern editions of some of
Hardy's prose writings but nothing about modern editions of his
poetry. Its selective bibliography of nine print books about
Hardy is eccentric--four are devoted largely to pictures.
Furthermore, such headings as "Far from the Madding
Crowd (1874). On Line. The Norton Critical Edition is edited
by Robert C. Schweik" can be both mistaken and misleading:
in this case the hyperlink was, in fact, to a text not of Far
from the Madding Crowd but of The Mayor of Casterbridge,
and now is a link to a web hosting service, as are intended links to four other Hardy novels. Furthermore, none of those texts linked to were texts of the Norton Critical Editions, as the
annotations seem to imply. Of the links to remote sites, one is broken; the others are all described and evaluated in the TTHA's "Links" pages.
SUMMARY:
An unreliable site for anyone seeking accurate and systematic information about Hardy.
