This page, part of a site devoted to Siegfried Sassoon, contains a four-paragraph note on Hardy prepared by Michèle Fry, an undergraduate student at Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education, UK. The note includes a two-sentence comment on Hardy's influence on Sassoon, specifically on his Siegfried's Journey, and points out that "Sassoon cites Hardy's Satires of Circumstance as an influence on his own satirical war poems." Also provided is a link to e-texts of Hardy's sonnets as well as a link to a "Hardy Bookshelf."

COMMENT:

The remarks on Hardy's influence on Sassoon are not documented. The author notes that she will provide an essay with more information on Hardy's relationship to Sassoon's satirical war poems at a later date.

The link to e-texts is available from this TTHA site; the "Hardy Bookshelf" provides links to Advanced Book Exchange and to books advertised by Amazon.com.

For Dan Jacobson's opinion that Hardy's poetry did not change over time, see the quotation drawn from the Oxford Companion to 20th Century Poetry in the comment on an earlier version of this page.
