A personal site of Andrew Moore, School Improvement Service, East Ridiong of Yorkshire Council, Main Street, Skirlaugh, East Riding of Yorkshore, HU11 5YW, UK. Mr. Moore is a graduate of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and studied education at Leicester University and the uses of computing in education at the University of Lincoln. He helped found the Association of Teacher Websites. Andrew Moore writes: "I have written this study guide for students taking GCE Advanced level (AS and A2) courses in English literature, and other comparable literature courses. It is suitable for undergraduates and the general reader who is interested in the study of poetry." About the study guide:
- It includes commentary on the following poems: "War Poems"--The Going of the Battery, Drummer Hodge, The Man He Killed, Channel Firing, and In Time of 'The Breaking of Nations'; "Poems About Emma"--The Going, The Haunter, and The Voice; "Philosophical and Personal Poems"--During Wind and Rain, The Darkling Thrush, Shut Out That Moon, To an Unborn Pauper Child, The Oxen, and Afterwards.
- The site also includes a brief introduction to Hardy's life and suggestions with such titles as "Comparing War Poems" and "Responding to the Poems."
- The guides to individual poems usually include an introductary discussion which may provide background information, a general description of the poem, with more specific comment on relevant details such as rhythm, rhyme, syntax, theme, style, and the like, with, sometimes, links to other commentaries on the poem. This introductory matter is followed by a stanza-by-stanza paraphrase, with comment on various details of that stanza.
