On 04//08/03, using "Thomas Hardy" for author and keyword searchs yielded a list of thirty-six entries including volumes of poetry, short stories, and editions of
novels, in print and/or cassette editions, and secondary studies. Entries provide bibliographic data, price, brief descriptions, and, in the case of recent print editions, explanations of editorial procedures.
COMMENT:
A useful addition to the Penguin catalogue in printed form. Worth
noting is that the most recent Penguin editions of Hardy's novels
are based not on the 1912 Wessex Edition but, rather on first
editions, with extensive notes on their subsequent revisions,
and, often, with reproductions of the illustrations used in the
serial editions. One exception is Rosemarie Morgan's
edition of Far From the Madding Crowd (2000) which instead
provides the manuscript version of the novel.
