Alex is a catalogue of electronic texts--primarily philosophical, but including English and American literature--derived from Project Gutenberg, Wiretap, the On-Line
Book Initative, the Eris system at Virginia Tech, the English
Server at Carnegie Mellon University, the on-line portion of
the Oxford Text Archive and other sources. Its contents may be browsed by author, title, or filename, or by search engine. Formerly, this collection included thirteen entries for e-texts of Hardy novels; now, search for "Hardy" leads only to an e-text of Jude the Obscure in a format that allows for searching its contents and for making "ebooks" in PDF, Newton Paperback, Palm Pilot, or Rocket Book formats.
COMMENT:
Alex texts are said to be in the public domain and complete, but no claims are made concerning the quality of texts in the database. The Hardy Jude text, for example, is from the Project Gutenberg collection, where its print source is not identified. See our GENERAL
CAUTION about such texts.
